The Oklahoma City Barons survived last night’s game with the Iowa Wild while the Checkers lost to the Admirals, 5-1. Thus the Barons have secured a date with the top notch Texas Stars in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs. You’ll recall, the first round of the Calder race is a short best of five with the first two games being played on the home ice of the lower seed. That always causes heartburn.
Via the AHL PR twitter account, here is the first round schedule:

A couple of things worth pointing out. As mentioned by 100 Degree Hockey, on his fabulous blog, there is a late start to the second game of the series most likely a result of the packet pickup for the OKC Memorial Marathon. Good catch.
Also, game two is the same night as the Energy FC home opener, Prodigal’s latest sports adventure, and that can’t be good for the coverage team in the front office that has been doing double duty for two weeks.
This is going to be a quick, dirty, and heavy-handed series for both clubs. Preview and thoughts coming in the next day or so.
