Tend The Farm Stanley Cup Picks: First Round Edition (via the writing team)

Eric Rodgers Picks:

Boston Bruins vs. Detroit Red Wings – Boston in 5.
Bruins are going to prove to be too tough for a Red Wings team that struggled at times this season.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Montreal Canadiens – Tampa Bay in 6.
I’ve got a soft spot for the Bolts, and I’m not a fan of Montreal. Great logic, eh?

Pittsburg Penguins vs. Columbus Bluejackets – Pittsburgh in 6.
As much as I’d like to see the Jackets do well after their troubles even reaching the postseason, Pittsburgh’s just got the edge.

New York Rangers vs. Philadelphia Flyers – New York in 7.
I like the way Vigneault has been running the Rangers and I think he’s got them the best prepared. Brutal series, but the Rangers edge out Philly.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Minnesota Wild – Colorado in 5.
They started out strong and finished off even stronger. Avalanche are a force to be reckoned with this season.

St. Louis Blues vs. Chicago Blackhawks – Chicago in 6.
Blues are too badly banged up and Chicago is getting back Kane and Toews. Oh, and Chicago forever. Always.

Anaheim Ducks vs. Dallas Stars – Anaheim in 7.
It’ll be down to the wire, I can even see multiple games ending in OT, but the Ducks get the edge.

San Jose Sharks vs. Los Angeles Kings – San Jose in 7.
I flipped a coin.

Patricia Teter’s Picks:

Boston Bruins vs. Detroit Red Wings – Red Wings in 5.
Never underestimate the Red Wings and that flying critter.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Montreal Canadiens – Tampa Bay in 5.
Going with Cooper’s Lightning despite the question of Ben Bishop’s injury – if Bishop’s out, there is every chance we’ll see Latvian wunderkind rookie Kristers Gudlevskis who scared Canada silly at the Olympics.

Pittsburg Penguins vs. Columbus Blue Jackets – Blue Jackets in 6.
Bobrovsky will be the magician for the Blue Jackets in this matchup.

New York Rangers vs. Philadelphia Flyers – Rangers in 6.
Vigneault. Lundqvist. Vigneault. Lundqvist. Vigneault. And Lundqvist.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Minnesota Wild – Wild in 7.
Cheering for the underdog Wild specifically for their Goaltenders – what a season for the Wild’s Bäckström, Harding, Gustafsson, Kuemper, Bryzgalov, Laurie and Curry.

St. Louis Blues vs. Chicago Blackhawks – Blues in 6.
It’s your time St. Louis. Just do it! And at least 1 goal for Maggie!

Anaheim Ducks vs. Dallas Stars – Ducks in 6.
This is a tough one since the Stars are just beginning to find some favor with me, but I’m going with Boudreau’s Ducks and Teemu.

San Jose Sharks vs LA Kings – Sharks in 6.
The Big Pavelski with the win.

Neal Livingston Picks:

Boston Bruins vs. Detroit Red Wings – Bruins in 6.
Betting against the Wings, regardless of how the regular season played out, is just bananas. But in like fruit, and the stoutness of the B’s D.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Montreal Canadiens – Lightning in 7.
It’s a bad omen to pick against the only Canadian team in the postseason, but my heart beats for the warmth of the bay. The power play gets really good for the Floridians, and they overcome defensive indescretions.

Pittsburg Penguins vs. Columbus Bluejackets – Bluejackets in 7.
I’m an Ohian, love the state, love the Jackets. They’ll give the Pens a run for their money. Despite their lack of postseason memories, the Jackets have the 5th Line, and some determination. I’ll bite on the major upset.

New York Rangers vs. Philadelphia Flyers – New York in 7.
This is going to be a gargantuan matchup, but coaching and goaltending go to New York. If there were ever a season that the Rangers make a surprise appearance in the Finals, this is the season.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Minnesota Wild – Avs in 5.
This might be the early lock of the postseason. The Avs are red hot, and hungry. The Wild, despite beefing up in seasons, will struggle to stay in step with Colorado’s offense.

St. Louis Blues vs. Chicago Blackhawks – Blues in 7.
Tough pick to make here, but I really like the Blues. No team plays better with a smallish lead than St. Louis, and they are fine with that. The Hawks are always dangerous, so beware.

Anaheim Ducks vs. Dallas Stars – Stars in 6.
A first round between Dallas and Anaheim sound ravenous. My daughter was an infant the last time Big D was in the postseason, so I gotta follow the heart and Seguins rude boy ways. #weareallvalnichushkin

San Jose Sharks vs. Los Angeles Kings – Sharks in 6.
Chomp! The Kings will not reign supreme over the Sharks whom are poised to prove the world wrong. Just so dangerous at both ends. Again, CHOMP!
