Three ECHL Contracted Players In Bakersfield To Attend AHL Camp In OKC

Announced today, the Bakersfield Condors have made arrangements for nine of their contracted players to be sent to AHL clubs for training camp with three specifically joining the Barons. Camp begins Sunday morning. Included in the group are some familiar names, ones that have been in and around the AHL for seasons gone by.

Joel Broda, who has bounced from ECHL to AHL and back again for all of his three seasons as a pro, leaps off the page quickly. Most recently he spent over one hundred games in two seasons with the Houston Aeros, whom played in the same division as the Oklahoma City Barons. His numbers weren’t earth shattering, but we watched him battle Barons quite often in several seasons, and he’s only 23 years old. He’s worth watching.

The full list of Condors players being sent to AHL clubs is as follows (via Condors):

C Joel Broda – Oklahoma City Barons
F Preston Shupe – Oklahoma City Barons
D Wes Cunningham – Oklahoma City Barons
D Erik Burgdoerfer – Hershey Bears
F Louke Oakley – Hershey Bears
F Mike Hellyer – Iowa Wild
F Gary Steffes – Iowa Wild
F Blair Macaulay – St. John’s IceCaps
F Brett Lyon – Abbotsford Heat

In a companion piece to this ECHL announcement, the Condors coaching staff made mention of the ongoing discussion with Barons GM Bill Scott on whom he believes might be a valuable asset to Bakersfield when the season begins. This, of course, means that there are several players currently in OKC that are bound for the ECHL. No surprise there.
