Mark Arcobello has flown under the radar for years. The Yale graduate has worked his way from the floor up so to speak starting with the ECHL Stockton Thunder, then with the Oklahoma City Barons, and now with the Edmonton Oilers. Following a harsh stretch of injuries of late for the Oil, Arcobello will get hist first taste of NHL ice. And it’s well deserved.

Announced today:

The chatter of needing solid centermen amongst the Oilers fans has been ongoing for some time now. And the easy pick for the recall would have been Chris VandeVelde, who has held down the call up role over the last two seasons. But clearly the Oilers will reward some hard work, good stats, and recent play alongside Eberle and Hall with some NHL ice time. This will be Mark Arcobello’s first NHL opportunity.

With Mark you get a smallish, light, super fast, super bright, and surprisingly head strong centerman. He played dynamite hockey alongside Hall and Eberle while Nuge was playing in the World Juniors tournament. He has continued to lay down impressive numbers in their absence, and fitting him into the Oilers will be interesting. I think there will be a bit of a learning curve for the “little engine that could”, but here’s hoping he has success. Good luck Mark!
