There is something about a hockey sweater. Ironically, they are less like sweaters and more like umbros for the top, but I’ll always call them sweaters. As more of a tradionalist (whatever that means), I was late to embrace the Reebok incredi-fabric jersey’s that all the kids were wearing. Why? Because it slightly lost the nostalgia of the heavy, warm, and often draw stringed sweater I grew up loving.
Nonetheless, I purchased a Barons sweater and my life has never been the same. They are light yet warm. Form fitting yet free forming. There is just something about the feel and smell of a brand new jersey that gets the hockey hormones racing.
The Barons are fond of auctioning of the jerseys post-game, and some have gone for several hundreds of dollars. Of course, the money typically goes to a good cause, but all-in-all, a game worn jersey is pretty special.
Props to the dude in this photo for scoring the would be NHLer Petry’s sweater!
