Easily one of my favorite hockey traditions in Oklahoma City is the annual outdoor practice. An incredible photo op backdropped by portions of the downtown landscape is quite a sight. The rarity of snow and ice in Oklahoma has been humbled over the last couple of years. Giant ice storms, record snow falls, and bone chilling temperatures have changed many opinions of what winter in Oklahoma is all about. Yet, the novelty of outdoor rinks in Oklahoma will never be unfashionable.
A small intrasquad game took place weeks before Christmas with lots of grins and very little actual practice occurring. For most Barons players this was a special moment. Most grew up on outdoor rinks, or some sort of variation. This back-t0-our-roots moment always makes for great photos, but even more happiness.
