Like any good child of the 80’s and 90’s, I love a good read of Where’s Waldo? Finding that dopey guy in candy caned clothes amid a sea of similarity was so much fun and fantastic for long car trips, doctors appointments, and time wasters. I miss that little guy.
As an adult, and a Barons ticketed patron, the nightly gander towards press row was a Where’s Waldo moment.
Because often the heavy hitters were in town. Scouts from Long Island, Canadian Free Press, and Edmonton Journos are typically smattered throughout the upper portion of the Cox Center.
And, yes, from time to time our own Kevin Lowe and Steve Tambellini graced the Cox Center. They’d look on in intently, with blackberries drawn, watching their minions play a far north game in a a far south world.
It wasn’t all gloom and doom. As a matter of fact, often they posed with kids and fans when asked to do so. They also had a tendency to arrive fashionably late, and leave fashionably early. The jet-setting from Canada to Oklahoma can’t be an easy one, but I can quickly identify at least a dozen times that I saw one or both guys in the press row.
Yet the real question remains. Did they eat a Pinkitzel cupcake after a Barons victory?
