The giveaways are like mana from heaven for minor league hockey teams. Youth jerseys, glow-in-the-dark goalie masks, lottery tickets, free meals, and more. And quite honestly, it seems that the classier the organization, the more ridiculous the “at door” giveaways. Case in point, the Barons embraced their Oklahoma roots with full force by giving away cowboy hats. Of course, the owning entity of the Barons, Prodigal Hockey, is also Prodigal LLC who promote professional bull riding events locally and out-of-state as well.
Call it cross promotion, or simply Okie heritage, but handing out cowboy hats at a hockey game is something that can only happen in a few hockey cities in North America. Nonetheless, the kids loved it!
I look forward to leather chap and silver spur night to complete my ensemble.
